Elementary School Teacher (Grades 1-6)

I am a bilingual elementary school teacher with a decade of classroom experience. I am a demonstrated leader on my team, and use a long view of our curriculum to ensure we collect a rich set of resources that are relevant to our students and their learning. I keep my work spaces and work plans strategic and highly organized.

Professional Experience:

Friends Community School Aug 2017 – Present

3rd/4th Grade Teacher

Key Contributions:

Print and Digital Media: In order to meet the needs of all learners, I incorporate a variety of print and digital media into each unit of study. As a regular part of my lesson planning, I source high quality text and media that meet my curricular goals and will be accessible to my students, including primary and authentic sources with an intentionally diverse set of authors. I currently use platforms like Newsela, Book Creator, Epic Library, Britannica School, YouTube, and Flocabulary to integrate video, music, and rich texts into student learning.

Leadership: I served as a faculty leader for the school for SY 2020-2021. I regularly develop frameworks for planning and collaborating so we can think strategically and mindfully about our current and future priorities. I moved us towards a practice of creating rubrics with specific criteria for high-quality work to guide the teaching team in our assessment of student progress. I initiated a rewrite of report card standards as specific, measurable, attainable, and relevant goals.

Inclusion: My curriculum and daily teaching practice incorporate diversity issues and multicultural content across subject areas, as I continually strive to become a more anti-bias/anti-racist educator. I take care to ensure that students see their own cultures represented in curriculum and material, and uphold high expectations for all students in an inclusive classroom.

Differentiation: My lessons use scaffolded skills and differentiated learning experiences to serve a mixed-age 3rd and 4th grade classroom with a range of reading levels, writing proficiencies and levels of executive functioning.

Collaboration: I collaborate effectively with my colleagues and their variety of teaching and working styles. I come into any collaboration with ideas for how to improve students’ experience, and listen thoughtfully in order to synthesize multiple perspectives and find the best path forward.

Key Contributions

Leadership: As grade level team lead for the 2016-2017 school year, I was the liaison between the administration and my teaching team. I ensured fidelity of practice across four classrooms, both English and Spanish, in curriculum, instruction, and assessment.

As a lead teacher, I mentored a teaching fellow each year in their professional growth, offering them space to grow in their teaching and opportunities to try out new ideas.

Collaboration: I worked with special education teachers, intervention teachers, and other service providers to support individual student needs and ensure progress toward academic and social goals. I cooperated closely with my paired English classroom to meet the needs of our shared student group.
